Live rock from the Mediterranean Sea: Which salinity?
I brought a rock overgrown/inhabited by various algae, small creatures and a little crab from my holiday at the Mediterranean Sea, near Genoa. I now want to set up a small saltwater aquarium only with aeration. I think I can do without heating since the lowest winter temperature (in my room) is 18 °C.
yes, I agree.
However, I am now looking for information about the salinity as to imitate the original water as closely as possible. Can you help me?
You can use the same salinities as they are usual in reef tanks, everything between 3.3 - 3.6 % is OK (adaptation is of course done with the dripping water method as generally usual in saltwater!). The mentioned salinities represent densities ranging from 1,0235 - 1,0255 g/cm³ at 20 °C.
